Do the Math & Food Policy Town Hall Meeting

To wrap-up the Do the Math campaign, we hope you’ll join us at a Town Hall Meeting and MPP Candidates Food Policy Discussion

  • Tues, Sept 27, 2011 – 6:30 to 9:30 pm
    • 6:30 to 7:45 – Hear from the Do the Math challengers about their experiences.
    • 7:45 to 8:15– break (light, local snacks to be served)
    • 8:15 to 9:30 – Guelph MPP candidates will discuss food security and other food policy issues.

The Guelph & Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination and the Guelph-Wellington Food Round Table are co-hosting the evening.  Childcare and transportation assistance is available. Please arrange in advance by calling 519-821-0571 x 29.

Workshop: Bridges Out of Poverty

The Ontario Provincial Police is partnering with the County of Wellington and the Township of Centre Wellington to host the Bridges Out of Poverty Workshop. This workshop is a powerful tool for change, reaching out to service providers and businesses who daily work connects with the lives of people in poverty.

September 20th
8am to 4pm
Elora Community Centre Hall, 29 David St., Elora

Topics covered in this workshop include:

  • Redesigning programs to better serve people in poverty
  • Building skill sets for management to help guide employees
  • Upgrading training for front-line staff
  • Improving treatment outcomes in healthcare and behavioural healthcare

211 Coming to Town

211, a province-wide information and referral telephone hotline, makes it’s official start in Guelph & Wellington next week. 

Community members are welcome to attend the launch, held as part of the 2011 United Way fundraising campaign kick-off.  The event takes place Wed, Sept 14 — 8 to 9 am — City Hall, Guelph.

211=24/7 access to community and social services info

211 is your first stop for information about child care, language classes, job searches, housing, emergency shelters, services for persons with disabilities, home support, legal assistance, financial assistance, and much more. When you dial the 211 hotline you are connected with a Certified Information and Referral Specialist who has been trained to assess your needs, answer your questions accurately, and advise you about the services and programs that are best for you and your loved ones.  Information is also available online at 211Ontario.ca.

STEPS Announcement & Open House

Find out more about Wyndham House’s STEPS (Support Through Engagement, Programming & Sport) program, which offers free recreational opportunities to marginalized and at-risk youth in our community.

Guelph MPP Liz Sandals will announce the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport’s support of the STEPS Program.
