Income Security Action Group

We believe…

The Income Security Action Group (ISAG) believes that all individuals and families in Guelph & Wellington should be income secure.

What we know…

  • In 2010, 10.6% of individuals in Wellington County (including the City of Guelph) were in low-income based on an after-tax low-income measure (LIM-AT) (National Household Survey, 2011).
  • The minimum wage has been frozen at $10.25 for three years. In that time, food and transit costs have soared while inflation has driven down minimum wage earnings 19% below the poverty line (Raise the Minimum Wage, 2013).
  • Since 2008, the Ontario Works caseload in Wellington County (inc. the City of Guelph) has risen by approximately 60% (County of Wellington, 2013).

What we’re doing about it…

  • Promoting dialogue about a living wage in Guelph and Wellington ($15.95/hour) by hosting community conversations, doing community presentations, and developing an employer recognition program. Download our Living Wage Report here: Living Wage Report.
  • Advocating for the implementation of the final recommendations from the Commission for the Review of Social Assistance in Ontario. Learn about our Call to Action campaign here: A Call to Action.
  • Hosting workshops in our community to provide front-line community volunteers and social service providers with accurate and up-to-date knowledge so that they are better able to inform, direct and connect community members with the appropriate services.
