Join in on the Living Wage & Housing community conversation*

How did we arrive at a living wage of $15.95 for our community? A number of factors had to be considered, each of which will be explored over the course of 2014 in their own community conversation. Join us on April 16th as we explore housing in Guelph-Wellington as a major cost driver in the living wage calculation.

This event is open to the community. We want to engage in a discussion about how to change policy and advocate for improved access to affordable housing for low-income people in our community.

When: Wednesday, April 16, 2014
Time: 6:30-8:30pm
Where: Meridian Community Room, Stone Road Mall, 2nd Floor (Ontario Early Years Centre). 435 Stone Rd W, Guelph. For driving & transit directions, please see registration page.

Leanne Taylor, a powerful speaker, will share with us her struggles trying to access affordable housing and the barriers faced by low-income people in our community. We will hear from, and interact with, the lead consultant of the County of Wellington’s 10 Year Housing & Homelessness Plan. We will explore the economics of rental housing, what are the barriers our community faces in developing affordable housing? What needs to be done to make Guelph-Wellington a “Living Wage Community”? What can we learn from other communities? There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and conversation with the panelists and each other.

Panel participants include:

  • Eden Grodzinski, lead consultant of the County of Wellington 10 year Housing & Homelessness Plan
  • Jane Londerville, Associate Professor of Real Estate, University of Guelph
  • Leanne Taylor, Advance Your Voice speaker
  • Stuart Beumer, Co-chair of the Income Security Action Group
  • Suzanne Swanton, Co-chair of the Wellington Guelph Housing Committee
